Background
Think Pink: Bahrain Breast Cancer Society, is a non-profit organisation that was founded by Dr. Julie Sprakel, in 2004. Over the years the money raised has been directed towards several areas that would better support the Kingdom in regards to breast cancer; Awareness, Education, and Research. On starting the NGO an initial donation of over BD 120, 000 was given and directed toward the then, National Mammography Drive initiated by the Ministry of Health and Bahrain Cancer Society. Working under the umbrella of BCS in the initial few years, the Charity became registered as the only standalone breast cancer society in the Kingdom of Bahrain and the only breast cancer specific NGO within the Kingdom. Our governance is in accordance with the Ministry of Labour & Social Development along with collaboration with the Ministry of Health.
What started as a one off event to mark our Founder’s 30th birthday, is now a nationwide awareness campaign. Since inception, Think Pink Bahrain has raised over $US 3. 5 Million (updated 2020) and falls within three of Charity’s Funds: Awareness, Education, and Research.
Members and volunteers of the Think Pink team donate their time, expertise talent and business acumen to support the ongoing work of the Charity. The Committee and Executive Board have been selected to compliment the Founders vision and enable Think Pink: Bahrain Breast Cancer Society to run efficiently and effectively thus ensuring the success of our mission and vision
OUR VISION
The core principle of Think Pink Bahrain’s philosophy is education. Education is the first step to prevention. When we educate our mothers, daughters, sisters, and nieces, we can help them make informed decisions, which may ultimately save their lives. Our ongoing investment in education will enable the people of Bahrain to receive and have access to the best healthcare professions with a holistic approach to breast cancer treatment.
OUR MISSION
Think Pink Bahrain aims to empower people at grass root levels through collaboration with local affiliates to continue to promote the importance of education and screening programs and community-based outreach projects.
